Was ist passiert?

Letztes Wochenende hatten wir ein tolles Konzert: internationale Artists, 60 Personen und super Stimmung. Nachdem wir bis zu letzt an unserer neuen Schalliso gebaut hatten, haben wir natürlich im Gang und im Innenhof die Lautstärke überprüft. Das leise Geräusch das noch zu hören war hätte genauso gut von einer Bluetoothbox hinter verschlossenen Scheiben sein können. 2 Meter weiter weg war es nicht mehr auszumachen. Jedes Gespräch im Hausflur ist lauter!

Weil uns unsere Nachbar*innen am Herzen liegen haben wir dennoch einen Feedbackzettel an die Tür zum Treppenhaus gehängt.

Die meisten Bewohnenden unseres Hauses hat die Musik nicht gestört.
Wäre da nicht dieses kleine gallische Dorf...

Und jetzt der Scherbenhaufen:

Im Laufe des Abends mussten wir einen Besucher auffordern zu gehen. Er war offensichtlich alkoholisiert und ist bereits in der Vergangenheit negativ aufgefallen. Dass wir ihm nichts ausschenken wollten, hat er genauso wenig akzeptiert wie die Tatsache, dass er bei uns nicht willkommen ist.
Er harrte vor dem Lokal aus, grölte und hat zu guter Letzt -immerhin unabsichtlich- eine unserer Fensterscheiben zerstört.

Es widerspricht unseren politischen Grundsätzen die Polizei einzuschalten.

Leider lässt sich das über einen bestimmten Nachbarn nicht sagen. Als wir am nächsten Tag die kaputte Scheibe ausbauten und als Übergangslösung die Fassade mit Holzbrettern verschlossen, informierte uns die (anscheinend erst an diesem Tag gerufene) Polizei darüber, dass ein Nachbar uns wegen Ruhestörung angezeigt hätte. Um welchen Nachbarn es sich handelt konnten sie uns nicht sagen. Nur so viel: “Er besteht auf die Anzeige.”

Und Warum eine zweite Anzeige?

Das fragen wir uns auch. Beim Konzert am 31.5. hat der erste Act gerade einmal 20 Minuten gespielt -und prompt stand um 20:45 wieder die Polizei vorm Haus. Zu dieser Zeit hielt sich keine Person vor dem Lokal auf und im Flur war nur etwas von der Musik zu hören, wenn eins direkt vor der Tür gelauscht hätte. Sogar die Exekutivbeamten mussten gestehen, nichts gehört zu haben.

Beim Gespräch mit dem Besitzer eines benachbarten Gastrobetriebs erfuhren wir, dass in den letzten Tagen auch bei ihm Exekutivbeamte angeklopft und die Verantwortlichen für “wiederholte Lärmbeschwerden” gesucht haben.

Wir hatten diese Woche nur zwei sehr ruhige Barabende mit Musik aus der Dose auf Zimmerlautstärke...

Aufgrund der Umstände müssen wir also davon ausgehen, dass egal was wir machen die Polizei gerufen wird. Möglicherweise auch wenn wir gar nicht da sind, so wie vor zwei Monaten, als eine im Wind auf- und zuschlagenden Kellertür als von uns verursachter Lärm angezeigt wurde.
Wir haben nichtmal einen Kellerschlüssel.

Freiräume Verteidigen

Als Anarchist*innen sind wir es gewohnt Repression zu erfahren. Ob direkt seitens des Staates oder klammheimlich durch die sogenannte “bürgerliche Mitte” mit ihrer häuchlerischen Moral.

Wir kämpfen auch weiterhin mit allen Mitteln dafür diesen Freiraum, den viele von uns als zweites Zuhause und wichtigen Treffpunkt ihres sozialen Umfelds sehen, zu erhalten.

Das Kaleido bleibt radikal, laut und ein Dorn im Auge des, sich Stück für Stück gentrifizierenden 5. Bezirks.

Wenn uns hier was rausholt, dann schon mindestens eine Naturkatastrophe.
Aber mit Sicherheit kein lästiger Nachbar.

What happened?

Last weekend we had a great concert: international artists, 60 people and a great atmosphere. After working on our new soundproofing until the last minute, we obviously checked the volume in the corridor and courtyard. The quiet noise that could still be heard could easily have come from a Bluetooth box behind closed windows. It could no longer be made out 2 metres further away. Every conversation in the hallway is louder!

Because we care about our neighbours, we still put a feedback note on the door to the stairwell.

Most of the residents of our building were not bothered by the music...
If it weren’t for this small exception...

A pile of broken glass

During the course of the evening, we had to ask a visitor to leave. He was obviously drunk and had already caused a problems in the past. He neither accepted that we didn’t want to serve him anything nor the fact that he wasn’t welcome in our place.
While lingering outside the building, he noisily harrased other guests as well as the people on shift that night (who repeatedly told him to leave) and finally - albeit unintentionally - broke one of our windows.

It’s against our political principles to call the police.

Sadly, this cannot be said about one particular neighbour. When we removed the broken glass the next day and closed the façade with wooden boards as a temporary solution, the police (who had apparently been called only that day) informed us that a neighbour had filed a noise complaint against us. The cops wouldn’t tell us which neighbour this concerned. They only said this much: ’He insists on pressing charges.’

And why the second report?

We ask ourselves the same question. At the concert on May 31st, the first act played for just 20 minutes - and at 20:45 the police were standing at our gates again. At that time, there was no one in front of the venue and the music could only be heard in the corridor if someone had been listening directly in front of the door. Even the cops had to admit that they hadn’t heard anything.

When we spoke to the owner of a neighbouring gastronomy business, we found out that the police had also knocked on his door in the last few days looking for the people responsible for the ‘repeated noise complaints’.

We only had two very quiet bar evenings this week with music from the can at room volume.

Due to the circumstances, we have to assume that the police will be called no matter what we do. Possibly even when we’re not there, like two months ago when a basement door slamming open and shut in the wind was reported as noise caused by us. We don’t even have a key to the basement.

Defend anarchist spaces!

As anarchists, we are used to experiencing repression. Whether directly by the state or secretly by the so-called ‘bourgeois centre’ with its hypocritical morals.

We continue to fight -by all means necessary- to preserve this open space, which many of us see as a second home and an important meeting place for our social environment.

The Kaleido remains radical, loud and a thorn in the side of the 5th district, which is gentrifying bit by bit.

If something gets us out of here, it will have to be a natural catastrophe at the very least. But certainly not an annoying neighbour.

The district stays dirty!
